Janis Joplin and the darn rollerskates

You might not be a Janis Joplin fan but when I say ' The Roller Skate Song' .. (excluding the existence of the suggestive title I have put up here) you might go 'Janis Joplin'!

But really, no.

Joplin never had anything to do with roller skates.

So why do websites after websites have 'the roller skate song' listing Janis Joplin as the artist? I recently found out that the song ' Brand new key' alias 'The roller skate song' was released a year after Janis died. There is no album with Janis having released any roller skate song, ever . And still radios and pretty darn every music website have Janis tagged with a song she never sang. Is it the power of the free-information internet that has spiraled this misinterpreted information so wildly or lack of our need to make sure the websites we suck information from is somehow credible (this is a whole genre of conversation if we think about it)? I wonder why does Melanie Safka not sue these sites rampantly crediting Janis the legendary Joplin for her song.

But the voice is very Janis no doubt .......

Brand New Key- Melanie Safka

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I asked your mother if you were at home
She said, yes .. but you weren't alone
Oh, sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you've got something I need
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out to see
La la la la la la la la, la la la la la la
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

Remember, MELANIE SAFKA.
